Mona Evie (2019-now)

Formed in 2019 and based primary in Hanoi by rapper and producer pilgrim raid, Mona Evie consists of members aprxel, Spencer Nam Nguyễn (from Rắn Cạp Đuôi) and later joined members (in 2022) Lưu Thanh Duy (from Nam Thế Giới) and @pangchiucowboy. Their debut album, Chó Ngồi Đáy Giếng, was recorded throughout 2021 in their bedrooms, combines the identities of all the member’s musical interests into a twisting multi-genre spanning record. Pulling major influences from Western left-field rap and more eclectic avant-garde Eastern influences, this is the group's attempt to break through the conventions of the current mainstream Vietnamese hip-hop scene. Punching through the new wave Viet music scene with the experimentation of unorthodox musical structures, psychedelic hypnotic soundscapes, and lo-fi home-recording approaches, feeding more into the abyss of internet weirdo rap and genre fuckery.

Nam's involvement with Mona Evie are mostly visual based, merch and guitar based work along with management and booking.

Rắn Cạp Đuôi (2019-2023)

Rắn Cạp Đuôi has been at the forefront of sound art and experimental music in Saigon, Vietnam, since their formation in 2015. Their anachronistic musical approach is evident in their diverse performances, ranging from a nonstop 48-hour performance in a local gallery to a three-drum improvisation at Nhạc Gãy’s Boiler Room. The artists behind Rắn Cạp Đuôi are in a constant state of flux, deconstruction and rebirth, resulting in chaotic sheets of sound and compositions which border on violence and beauty.

Nam's involvement in Rắn Cạp Đuôi was performance based guitar work along with merch and visual management.
