spencer nam nguyen
Nam Nguyen (he/him) [A.K.A Spencer] is a multimedia experimental visual artist based in Ho Chi Minh city, Vietnam. Nam's art practices range from illustration, printmaking, video, collage, animation and sound. While originally started as a substitute performing guitarist for the Vietnamese experimental krautrock collective Rắn Cạp Đuôi in high school - then joining Hà Nội based Internet 1.0-inspired multimedia Hip-Hop / Sound Collage band Mona Evie.
Nam's works not only prioritize themes of young adult life wrangled with intergenerational trauma, which most would agree is a trying time in a person’s life, but also as a politically aware, queer, Vietnamese youth in a time where that is not the ideal. Nam's practice is rooted in Do It Yourself culture. He is heavily influenced by a "genre-collage" of both visual and sonic unconventional movements such as Fluxus, Japanese Anime inspired Superflat, Shibuya Kei, Crust-Punk and extreme noise / danger music performances.
Nam is currently a final year Digital Media student at the Royal Melbourne Institute of Technology University.
